Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. - Hebrews 11:1 (NIV)
Faith is the substance that exists in the cracks and crevices of life. It exists as a buffer between tangible items and hard surfaces – and allows free movement while maintaining a connection between things. Faith is what holds us together as people and faith is what holds relationships together.
Faith requires a hope, a commitment, a desire, and steady attention. Faith is a gift from God that allows us to see the world with depth and clarity. The Bible tells us about Peter stepping out of the boat and walking on water. Christ called Peter out of the boat, and because Peter’s faith was certain and focused, he walked on water. Christ stood on the water, waiting, and unwavering… while Peter eventually began to sink.
The point isn’t that Peter sank, nor that he walked a short distance on water. The point is that Christ demonstrated that He thinks we can do what He does…. if our faith stays intact. Peter sank when he lost confidence in his own ability to follow Christ’s commands. Christ never doubted Peter’s ability. Don’t allow anyone to convince you that faith is weak. It takes tenacity, courage, and guts to maintain your faith in the face of doubt. Don’t give in, stay strong, keep walking toward Christ. He knows you can do it… listen to Him.
