He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him. – Psalm 40:3 (NIV)
The most unifying characteristic of Christian faith is built on a single premise… communication. God spoke the universe into existence and ancient practices were built around sharing experiences. Prior to the written word – a culture could not survive without one man telling another “where he found the food.”
In fact, prior to the written word, God was heavily at work in the lives of Abraham, His people, and His creation – all through the power of words.
It shouldn’t be a surprise that John’s gospel revealed Jesus Christ as, The Word. He was and is the physical embodiment of what God had been trying communicate with us since the Garden of Eden in Genesis.
Jesus, upon completing His walk with us – instructed His followers to go and “tell” the world about Him. So, at it’s most basic form – Christianity is a communication event. One man sharing his faith with another. Telling our stories of victory and warning others of our hard lessons learned is deeply rooted in our DNA. It really is that simple.
Whether we use words or not, we reflect the things that are held deepest in our core. We communicate who we are to those around us by the words we choose, the actions we take, and the reactions we offer. And yes, even the hidden things leak out – into our words. The condition of our soul speaks through our actions.
We are creatures, set apart. Created to honor God, created to worship God and instructed tell others about our encounters with Him. When we meet-up with Christ, we are changed. The words we use, the way we live, and the effort we place into sharing our faith – becomes our new song.
Be the voice of hope in the life of someone near you today. Examine your communication. If Christ is in you – your soundtrack will testify to it.
THE RIGHT NEXT STEP
Think about how you talk about God – how you feel when talking about Christ. How do you react to others doing the same?
PRAY: God, I want to represent you in the way I speak, how I act, and how I react to things for You and things You are against. Help me to continue shaping my life into a man who communicates your hope, love, and glory with every moment of my day. Amen.
